Code of Ethics

Altair originally operated primarily within the Mining industry before expanding its growth into other industries. As a business with this origin we have a strong link to the representative professional body known as the AusIMM. It is this organisation's purpose that all AusIMM members uphold and enhance the honesty, honour, integrity and dignity of our professions as embodied in the Code of Ethics. Altair is committed to the AusIMM Code of Ethics and translates this to our behaviours and in the way we engage with our clients and their stakeholders.

The AusIMM Code of Ethnics resonates strongly with other industries outside the mining industry.

The meaning and purpose behind the logo and the name

The logo for Altair is intimately linked to the word "altair". The name is a very old Arabric word meaning 'the flying eagle'.

The symbolism of the flying eagle and the colours is the essence of defining Altair's culture and values that we believe in and live.

'The flying eagle' embraces words such as visionary, purpose, determination, action, strength, accurate, to look at things with new eyes, determination, opportunity, protection, control, community and working with our environment which are all aspects that define Altair's values and culture.

"The name Altair has been used since medieval times. It is an abbreviation of the Arabic phrase النسر الطائر, an-nasr aṭ-ṭā’ir (English: The flying eagle). The term Al Nesr Al Tair appeared in Al Achsasi al Mouakket's catalogue, which was translated into Latin as Vultur Volans. This name was applied by the Arabs to the asterism of α,β, and γ Aquilae and probably goes back to the ancient Babylonians and Sumerians, who called α Aquilae the eagle star. The spelling Atair has also been used. Medieval astrolabes of England and Western Europe depicted Altair and Vega as birds."
